Williams, PhD
Autumn Greetings everyone! I always look forward to seeing the HU newsletter, celebrating all the wonderful things our community accomplishes: the researches completed by our recent graduates, the continuing service by our alumni in the wider world, and the creative teaching and healing innovations our faculty continues to evolve. This issue of the newsletter is full of these appropriate celebrations. In addition, I am especially pleased to have participated in some of the accomplishments announced in this issue through my new role as President. I have always enjoyed my years of teaching on the HU faculty, more than all of my other past teaching experiences. And as most of you know, I always enjoy teaching. I expect to enjoy future years, even more than the first seven years in the life of HU, with my additional tasks as President. Inside these pages, you will find our welcomes to new faculty members, and our sad, but fond farewells to those who have recently departed to pursue their work beyond HU. These friends continue as our colleagues, through their teaching and healing endeavors in the wider world. Also included in this edition of the newsletter is a thumbnail sketch of the new administrative relationship between HU and CEEMS (The Center for Environmental Energy Medicine Studies). I have served as President of CEEMS since its founding, many years ago, here in Lawrence, Kansas. That relationship is how I now serve also as HU President. CEEMS has agreed to provide administrative services to HU for our next seven years of growth. I want to especially thank both Ann Nunley and Bob Nunley, for agreeing to return to administrative duties. See their letters inside, for descriptions of their clear visions for growing the HU community. I also welcome Oliver London, to our faculty and into his new role as Provost. I have had the pleasure of collaborating with Oliver for many years, during his service as Chair of the CEEMS Board of Directors, and Vice President for Research. Ann’s essay discusses our new mission statement, and this newsletter concludes with the new HU logo and mission. As we reflected on the accomplishments of our first seven years, three things emerged as the essence of Holos University Graduate Seminary: self-development, scholarly exploration and research, and service. Without self-development, the study and the service would be for naught. Unless we understand how to transform ourselves, we can offer no real aid to others in their transformations. This issue also concludes with Kathryn Matthews’ beautiful Autumn Prayer. I want to conclude my own letter to you with a little part from her prayer: “I pray for the right doors to open, for the ability to look within and make good medicine from what I find there.” Berney |
